KUMI HIMO
KUMI-HIMO
is a braid consisting of
3 or more strands intercrossed obliquely. The braid is found in every
culture but the Japanese developed the highest order of braid technique and
complexity.
Using contemporary materials and concepts the braids can be used for belts, bag
handles, decorative wall hangings, bell pulls and jewelry applications or where
ever your imagination takes you.
Kumihimo Braid with a Woven Lampworked
Pendant (1 Day, 6 Hour Class)
Beginner class in the art of Kumihimo braid weaving. No prior weaving
experience is required. Using a Kumihimo loom with weighted bobbins,
students will make a basic square Japanese braid. Looms will be provided
for use. Next, using a basic macrame weave, students will create a unique
tassel or pendant that combines a lampworked glass bead as the focal point with
glass beads and seed beads as a compliment to the tassel.
Material List: Scissors, Fray Check and E-6000 Glue
Kit: For the braid, variegated cord and endcaps. For the
pendant students will receive a handmade lampworked glass or raku bead, cording,
seed and e-beads and assorted pressed glass beads

Kumihimo Braid (1 day, 6 hour class)
Beginner class in the art of Kumihimo braid weaving. No prior weaving
experience is required. Using a Kumihimo loom with weighted bobbins,
students will learn 4 types of traditional Japanese braids that can be used as
necklaces, straps for beaded pieces or as an embellishment on a piece of
clothing. Students will be making sample cord of the 4 braids and a
24" cord of one of the students choice of braids. Looms will be
provided for use.
Material List: Scissors, Fray Check and E-6000 Glue
Kit: Rat tail cord for sample braid, variegated cord for finished
braid and end caps for finished braid.

Kumihimo Braid

(1 day, 6 hour class)
Intermediate class in the art of Kumihimo braid weaving. Students must
be 16 years of older. Using a Kumihimo loom with weighted bobbins,
students will learn to mix cording with beads of chains to make a unique
24" strand.
Material List: Scissors, Fray Check and E-6000 Glue.
Kit: Variegated cord and end caps for finished braid and chain or
beads.
Kumihimo Beaded 16 Braid (1 Day, 6 Hour
Class)
Another intermediate class in the art of Kumihimo braid weaving. Prior
experience with 8 bobbin weaving is preferred. Students will explore a 16
bobbin weave technique that will incorporate variegated rayon cording and
seed beads to complete a stunning beaded cord.
Students should bring their looms to class.
Material List: Kumihimo Loom, Scissors, Fray Check and E-6000 Glue
Kit: Variegated cord, seed beads and endcaps for finished braid.
Knotted Kumihimo Braid Class (1day,6 hour class)
Take beads and braids to a new level in this innovative class in the art of
Kumihimo braid weaving. No prior weaving experience is required.
Using a Kumihimo loom with
weighted bobbins, students will be weaving an
assortment of threads, fibers and beads to create this one of a kind
necklace. Looms will be provided for use.
Material List: Scissors, Fray Check and E-6000 Glue
Kit: Mixed fibers, raku or lampworked bead,, seed and e-beads and
assorted pressed glass beads.
Lampworked Glass Woven Pendant with Kumihimo Braiding

Woven Tassel/ Pendant (1 day, 4 hours)
Using a basic macramé weave, students will create a unique tassel or
pendant that combines a lampworked glass of raku bead as the focal point with
glass beads and seed beads as a compliment to the tassel
Material List: Scissors, Fray Check, and G-S Hypo Tube Cement
Kit: A handmade lampworked glass bead, cording, seed bead and
e-beads and assorted pressed glass beads

Round
Braided Necklace (1 Day, 6 Hours)
Using a basic round weave technique, students will create an elegant
necklace incorporating an assortment of beaded strands instead of thread.
This class is a great compliment to a woven tassel class.
Material List: .010 Soft Touch, wire cutters, crimp pliers, crimp
beads and clasps, assortment of beads to string 4 strands (various sizes of seed
beads from 6/0-11/0) gemstones and/or pressed glass beads and measuring tape.
Viking
Knitted Chain Bracelet (1 Day, 6 Hour Class)
Copper: $20.00 or Sterling Silver: $30.00 Kit fee
Forge your very own chain using a basic Viking wire weave technique to create a
stunning bracelet that will be sure to impress anyone who sees it.
Material List: Wooded or plastic ruler, round nose pliers, flat
nose pliers, and wire cutters
